If you thought that the entire Emmalina bit from the Las Vegas Raw seemed weird and ill-planned, then you’re not alone. Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that WWE officials actually called an audible on Emmalina’s repackaging angle on the day of the show.
The initial plan was apparently for Emmalina to be a throwback character in the vein of Sable or The Kat, but officials felt that she wasn’t pulling it off. There were rehearsals for the angle as planned, but creative didn’t feel like she was committing to the character so they nixed the entire angle for her. There were big plans for the character, but it just didn’t work.
The current plan is for Emmalina to transition back to Emma and be a heel, but there is no time frame on that re-repackaging.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the angle was dropped because Dave Meltzer reported months ago that the entire angle had actually become somewhat of a running joke backstage. Fans were also rolling their eyes in massive numbers when WWE finally announced Emmalina’s arrival for last night’s show.
There are reports that creative is still high on the idea of bringing in a female to resemble the initially planned angle, but for now, it is going back into the “box of gimmicks.”
Goodbye Emmalina, it was great while it lasted. All 1 1/2 minutes of it.
