The Money In The Bank ladder match has become an annual thing in WWE over the past decade after Edge was the first ever winner of the match back at WrestleMania 21.
The concept was foreign to many WWE fans, so when Edge decided to cash in his contract at New Year’s Revolution back in 2006 on John Cena who had just managed to survive an Elimination Chamber match, Vince McMahon had to come out and announce that Edge was cashing in.
McMahon hasn’t announced any other Money in the Bank cash-ins in WWE history, and it seems that before the announcement was made, he had a few words of advice for Edge.
Edge mentioned the conversation he had with the WWE Chairman on a recent episode of his own podcast, E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness.
He said: “Prove me right, prove me right because he was the only one that was in my corner. Everybody else either thought it was too soon, after 9 years with the company [laughs]. Or didn’t think it was going to work or whatever.”
It seems that McMahon was backing Edge from the start before he went on to cash in his contract and once again the WWE Chairman was right since Edge is now a former 11-time World Champion and a WWE Hall of Famer. Even though his title run following New Year’s Revolution didn’t go to plan, the rest of Edge’s career seemingly proved that Edge did indeed go on to prove McMahon right.
