Edge is a WWE Hall of Famer, and he knows a thing or two about main eventing WrestleMania. It’s been a decade since Edge defended the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 24, and since then there have been quite a few WrestleMania main events featuring part time wrestlers.
The subject of part time wrestlers taking big spots at WrestleMania has been a hot topic over the last few years, as there are many who feel the big spots should be reserved for the performers who work for WWE full time.
Edge recently spoke to Sports Illustrated about the topic, and he said that he thinks AJ Styles is one full timer who will main event WrestleMania someday.
“I don’t think main-eventing WrestleMania is just for part-time talent, and I think AJ will prove that. He is a guy who has caught fire and figured out what he needs to do in WWE, which isn’t far off from what he was already doing, but you can tell he made some tweaks. Now, he’s just firing on every cylinder you can fire on. So I think he can be one that shows you can be with WWE full-time and main-event.”
Whether his prediction will turn out to be true remains to be seen, but AJ certainly seems to be on the right path.
He’s the current WWE Champion, and he’s earned a great reputation among his peers. Perhaps someday he’ll be able to show off his skills in the biggest match on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
