Edge was The Rated R Superstar and an 11-time WWE Champion but a neck injury caused him to retire from the business suddenly and prematurely on April 11, 2011. Edge had a great career in the ring, and he was able to accomplish a lot in the business.
On a recent episode of Edge and Christian’s Pod Of Awesomeness they had the privilege of speaking to Kenny Omega. During their interview Kenny discussed everything that went into the first iconic meeting he had with Kazuchika Okada.
The Cleaner admitted at first he was unsure if a match against Okada would be any good because the two hadn’t done much in the ring with each other and when they did meet it wasn’t excellent. Of course the match turned out to be more than just fine as it drew worldwide attention.
Edge then began to discuss how the match was so good it helped him get back into watching pro wrestling for the first time in years.
“It was a buddy of mine in Ireland who said you gotta see [Okada vs Omega] so I went ‘okay.’ Cause I’m out of the loop — I was out of the loop for a long time. You know I’ve said it on this show previously that after I retired I was burnt out. I just needed a break. I needed to not think about it, not see it, not — just be away.”
“So my buddy over there, I’m on a set with him you know we’re filming Vikings and he goes, ‘dude you gotta see all this stuff you gotta see this stuff that’s happening’ and I was like, ‘okay I’ll get caught up’ and I did. And I said AJ [Styles], [Kenny Omega], Nakamura all of these matches started pulling me in and then like here I am. I’m like ‘okay I gotta get caught up now. Now I gotta go back and watch all this stuff back and see what I’ve been missing. And that in turn pulls me into watching AJ’s stuff in WWE.”
