Edge And Christian On If The Broken Universe Would Work In The WWE

Matt and Jeff Hardy have completely reinvented themselves with the Broken Universe. When the Broken Hardys gimmick was introduced to the wrestling world in 2016, fans bought into it after a little convincing and now it’s become somewhat of a phenomenon.

The Broken Hardys are currently in a legal battle with Impact Wrestling over the rights to the Broken Universe, but the belief right now is that the brothers are WWE bound in the near future. At this point though no one knows if they’re going to be able to use the Broken Universe in WWE if they do indeed return.

Edge and Christian know The Hardy Boyz very well, and they recently talked about the Broken Universe while promoting their new podcast in an interview with Forbes. While talking about whether or not the gimmick could work in WWE, Edge noted that crazier gimmicks have gotten over, citing The Undertaker as just one example, and Christian also praised the brothers for reinventing themselves.

“It’s all about reinventing yourself,” said Christian.”You could probably be The Hardy Boyz, stick your two fingers up, make that ride from town to town and hope that people follow along with that nostalgia. Instead, they’ve taken the bull by the horns and reinvented themselves and stayed current, stayed fresh and keep people talking, and that’s what it’s all about.”

Edge agreed with Christian saying, “wrestling is all about reinvention, and if you don’t reinvent yourself, you’re going to get stagnant and people are going to get bored. I think back to when I came back from my first neck surgery and I came back as the babyface that I was when I left. I went in to my hometown of Toronto with the IC title against [Chris] Jericho and Batista and got booed.”

Although Edge admitted that he hasn’t watched a lot of footage from the Broken Universe, he did say that he enjoyed what he’s seen so far.

“Matt and Jeff are smart enough, particularly Matt — who is very hands-on with all of the incarnations of his character — to try stuff. I haven’t seen a whole lot of it, I’ve seen a couple of things and I thought it was hilarious and awesome.”

Everyone’s talking about the Broken Hardys right now, and it doesn’t look like people are going to stop talking about them anytime soon. The brothers are set to defend their ROH Tag Team Titles against The Young Bucks on Saturday April 1st at Supercard of Honor, and we’ll just have to wait and see what their next move is after that.
