The wrestling world unfortunately lost another charismatic performer last week when ECW original Balls Mahoney passed away at the age of 44. Balls was one of a kind and although he may be gone, he won’t be forgotten. Saturday night at the House of Hardcore event in Philadelphia some of the ECW originals got together and they paid tribute to their fallen friend in an awesome way.
Tommy Dreamer, Rob Van Dam, Shane Douglas, Joel Gertner, Blue Meanie, Rhyno and Danny Doring all gathered in the ring at one point and Dreamer gave a speech. Dreamer said that Balls was a crazy many, but he was their crazy man. He encouraged fans to celebrate the life of Balls Mahoney by watching his matches on the WWE Network and by watching his matches on YouTube.
Dreamer then told a story about how he stood next to Balls in the ring one time when they had to ring the bell for another wrestler who had passed away. Tommy said he looked to Balls as the bell was ringing and Balls just kept saying: “I hate this.” Dreamer said that Balls was different and there was only one way to celebrate his life.
Tommy pointed his finger and then the song “Big Balls” by AC/DC began to play and the crowd began to cheer. The audience then clapped along to the song as Dreamer and Blue Meanie encouraged them to sing. Everybody joined in with the words as they sang at the top of their lungs and it was a great way to say goodbye to a one of a kind performer.
