Drew McIntyre Reveals Original Plans For WrestleMania Match Against The Undertaker

Drew McIntyre has had a great year so far, as he won the men’s Royal Rumble match back in January, and he went on to defeat Brock Lesnar to become the WWE Champion at WrestleMania 36.

McIntyre has come into his own over the last few years, but it’s no big secret that WWE officials had high hopes for him earlier in his career.

Drew McIntyre recently spoke to BT Sport, and he revealed that originally WWE officials wanted him to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26.

“When I was 24 I was told by Vince McMahon, ‘you don’t listen to anybody but the Undertaker, he’s going to be your mentor and whenever you’ve got a question you go straight to him’. And the inevitable goal was to have a big match between him and I. Unfortunately I wasn’t ready at the time, things worked out the way they worked out, and I believe it led to, instead of myself and Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker, the retirement match. It was obviously a phenomenal match and I could not have delivered on that level at the time.”

Drew and Taker did face off in a tag team match last year at Extreme Rules when Drew teamed with Shane McMahon to face Roman Reigns and The Undertaker.

At this point it remains to be seen if they’ll ever face off in a singles match.
