A few years ago Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal were both part of a stable called 3MB with Heath Slater, but they were unfortunately released from their WWE contracts. Luckily both Drew and Jinder decided to turn a negative into a positive, and after a few years of hard work, they were both welcomed back to the company.
A few months ago at WWE Backlash, Jinder Mahal defeated Randy Orton to become the new WWE Champion. Drew McIntyre was in Chicago for the NXT Takeover event the night before, and he decided to stay so he could watch the title match as a fan.
During a recent appearance on X-Pac’s 12360 show, Drew McIntyre shared a funny story about how he rushed backstage after Jinder won the title so that he could bust out the 3MB air guitar for the new champion.
“I was there that night in Chicago. The pre-show for NXT the night before, I stayed for the PPV the next day. I didn’t want to know the results, and I told both of them [Jinder Mahal] and Randy [Orton] don’t tell me, I’ll watch from the crowd. And when he won, most of the NXT roster were heading to the bus, and I sprinted off like the Ultimate Warrior, straight to ‘gorilla.’ I was right there waiting for him and I busting a 3MB air guitar.”
Jinder Mahal will be defending his WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura at SummerSlam on August 20, and Drew will have his chance to win gold when he battles Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship the night before at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.
Winning the title is a big goal for Drew, but he also admitted that winning the belt isn’t the only goal he has walking into the event, as the NXT roster will be working hard to top SummerSlam.
“NXT TakeOver, is only four times a year, they’re always a spectacle, everyone busts their ass. And we’ve got like a silent competition, I’ll say it. SummerSlam is the next day. …We wanna top SummerSlam. We’re gonna top SummerSlam.”
