There has been a lot of speculation and confusion surrounding the rights to the Broken Hardys gimmick over the past few months, and the situation only seems to be getting more confusing as time goes on.
During a recent interview Nordholm claimed that Impact is willing to work something out, but WWE has no interest in using the Broken Hardys gimmick, which is why the two sides have not come to terms on a deal.
Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that the Hardys hired legal counsel back in April with the intention of locking down the trademarks/characters that go along with the Broken Universe, but their lawyer was reportedly ignored by Anthem.
Matt Hardy believes that The Hardys have ownership rights over the Broken Universe due to the fact that they funded and created it before Anthem purchased Impact Wrestling, and Matt wants Impact to sign over any claim they have over the Broken Universe.
In exchange for Impact signing over their claim to the gimmick, the entire Hardy family will agree not to sue the company over alleged claims they have regarding their time in Impact Wrestling. The report also notes that the two sides met last week, and it was believed that a resolution would be met.
Ed Nordholm also issued a statement to PWS saying once again that Impact is open to working out a deal, but that WWE is not interested in the gimmick.
“I have no comment on the Hardy’s legal posturing,” Nordholm said in a statement. “Our position is clear.”
As far as the details in the report go, according to Matt Hardy they are accurate.
