This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown was the go-home show for WrestleMania 39 and it featured some interesting moments to say the least. Throughout the show Rey Mysterio was getting ready for his big Hall of Fame induction, and at one point Legado del Fantasma decided to pay him a visit.
Santos Escobar told Rey Mysterio that Legado del Fantasma has his back in his fight against The Judgment Day. Rey then said that’s great, but they should do it in style, and he handed them all LWO shirts then told them that as of that moment they will be the new LWO going forward.
Dave Meltzer discussed the formation of a new LWO on Wrestling Observer Radio and he said that it’s part of a long-term plan. Meltzer noted that he doesn’t know where it’s going other than it’s set to be a major thing.
It was added that WWE pushed the idea that the LWO is nostalgic because it’s part of Eddie Guerrero’s legacy, and people love big babyface factions. The idea is to try to use Rey Mysterio to get everyone in Legado del Fantasma over more as WWE has been trying to develop a new Latin star as Rey is getting older.
