Last Sunday night Roman Reigns shocked the world when he returned after the main event and speared both Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman.
Roman’s return came as a surprise to many, and on Friday Night SmackDown last week we saw another surprising return to TV when Paul Heyman aligned himself with Roman Reigns.
It’s recently been reported that WWE has plans to push Roman as the top heel on the SmackDown brand moving forward, but it looks like there’s another reason for Heyman returning to TV.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE put Paul Heyman with Roman Reigns because Heyman has such a big contract, and he wasn’t doing anything. WWE wanted to justify the big contract which is why they put him on TV.
It was noted that Paul Heyman was still making a lot of money with his performer’s contract, but he hasn’t done anything recently due to the fact that Brock Lesnar has been off TV for months.
Paul Heyman is being paid like a top guy, so the company is putting him in a top program with Roman Reigns.
As noted Roman will challenge for the Universal Championship tonight at Payback when he faces Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt in a triple threat No Holds Barred match.
