Daniel Bryan announced on Monday that he was hanging up the boots for good and retiring. Bryan cited health issues from too many concussions as the biggest reason for his retirement.
Bryan then appeared on ESPN’s Off The Top Rope segment the next day and he says that he was undergoing tests in New York City a few weeks ago and they found something interesting. According to Bryan the EEG test showed a slowing of brain activity and a “small, subacute lesion” in an area of the brain which causes seizures. He revealed that he’s had post-concussion seizures in the past.
“I have had post-concussion seizures that I have hid, for a long time. There was never any evidence to see why I would have these seizures, but then finally we found some.” Bryan said.
Daniel Bryan’s comments created speculation on the Internet that he may have suffered a seizure during his last televised singles match. You can check it out in the clip above, but some fans thought Daniel Bryan was seen convulsing at the 2:20 mark. However that doesn’t appear to be the case.
Dave Meltzer recently reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Bryan’s last seizure happened four years ago.
“The last time he [Bryan] had a seizure was four years ago,” Meltzer said. “Obviously I don’t know who he hid it from and who he didn’t hide it from, but what I can tell you factually is that every single doctor that he talked with knew about it. He didn’t hide that from any doctors.”
