Details On The Controversial Finish To The Raw Women’s Title Match At Extreme Rules

For weeks now Sasha Banks has been taunting Asuka on the road to Extreme Rules, and on Sunday night they finally clashed.

The Boss challenged Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship, and the finish was controversial to say the least. During the match Asuka hit the referee with green mist by accident, then Bayley interfered, took the referee shirt off the referee, put it on, and counted the pin. Bayley then forced the time keeper to ring the bell.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the controversial finish was a last minute decision.

Original plans called for Asuka to defeat Sasha Banks.

The change was reportedly done by Vince McMahon in an effort to increase viewership for Raw. Last week viewership hit a new low with 1.561 million viewers. The hope is that fans will tune in to see how the angle between Asuka and Sasha plays out.

WWE has made no official announcements regarding the result of the match, but Asuka is still listed as the champion on WWE.com.
