Vince McMahon is the most powerful man in the professional wrestling industry, and for years he pushed John Cena to the top of the card.
Cena went on to become a huge success, as he’s now a 16 time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and over the years it seems that Cena took more control of his own storylines.
Arn Anderson recently discussed John Cena’s relationship with Vince McMahon on the ARN podcast, and he noted that when John started to take more control, Vince went along with it.
“I never failed to tell him (Cena) what I thought and when something was too much, and [if] we’re making a mistake here. If it was already settled and it was already being discussed, I had very, very little control over that.”
“As the years crept by, less and less, John took more control of what he felt he should do in his angles. Nine times out of 10, Vince would just go right along with him, and I understand.”
John Cena last wrestled at WrestleMania 36 where he was defeated by Bray Wyatt in the first ever Firefly Fun House match. It’s not clear when Cena will wrestle again, but he did confirm that his in-ring career is not over.
