Now that CM Punk is done with AEW the wrestling world has been wondering if he could return to WWE, and it seems that only time will tell if a return actually happens.
Fightful Select reports that WWE feels confident CM Punk would return to the company. It’s being reported that higher ups fully believe he would sign a deal with the company if they had interest. The word going around is that CM Punk has been open to the idea, but WWE believes that the ball is in their court.
No one in WWE had indicated that CM Punk had talks with the company as of two weeks ago. In late September there were feelers out from CM Punk to see if there was any interest from WWE. Someone close to CM Punk had been advised by a WWE employee that contacting Vince McMahon directly would be the best way to go about securing a return to the company. FOX had previously pushed for CM Punk to be brought back to the company before he signed with AEW, but Vince McMahon was adamant that he was not interested in bringing him back.
It’s being said that although people close to Punk believe he would sign with the company, there’s still a ton of heat on him stemming from his last run with WWE.
One top star reportedly said, “he wouldn’t be able to pull any of his s*** here. There’s nobody here he could jump without getting his a** handed to him.” Another top talent said they don’t believe Triple H would be willing to risk the negativity that comes along with bringing CM Punk back. However, it wouldn’t be the first time he’s brought back a talent with baggage since he took over control.
So far no one in WWE from creative or talent have been told anything about CM Punk returning. It was also noted that sources were adamant the recent teases that have been talked about on social media were not meant to tease a return for CM Punk.
There is said to be an elephant in the room when it comes to Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns as they’ve both made comments in the past indicating that they’re not fond of Punk. In order for a return to happen both sides believe that those fences would have to be mended.
Earlier this year CM Punk made an appearance backstage at Raw and one source believed Punk was looking to get his job back, but indicated they didn’t think it was in the cards based on how things went.
