This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicked off with a fiery promo from CM Punk which saw him call out former AEW World Champion Adam Page. Punk said it was “coward s**t” when Page didn’t answer the challenge and it was later reported that the call out was not planned and AEW officials didn’t know it was going to happen ahead of time.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that right now there is a ton of backstage drama involving many of the top stars in AEW, and it’s only gotten much worse in recent weeks.
It was noted that one of the big things that started it all was Colt Cabana being removed from the Dark Order with no angle and Cabana no longer being brought in for TV. Initially Colt Cabana was going to be released, but Tony Khan ended up signing him for ROH.
The situation with Colt Cabana is said to have been the catalyst, and different people including Page and Punk have different stories as to why it happened. It’s being said that it feels like a number of people are close to their breaking point if the situation doesn’t get settled.
AEW World Champion CM Punk is currently set to face interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley in a title unification match on Dynamite next week. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
