Goldberg worked his first match in over 12 years on Sunday and he defeated Brock Lesnar. We’ll be seeing more of him in the future, because this week on Raw Goldberg officially announced that he’ll be competing in the 2017 Royal Rumble.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Goldberg got a “big money deal” for his match with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series. Goldberg’s future with the company seems to be open ended at this point, and it’s being said that Goldberg will likely continue to work with the company as long as they’re willing to pay him the amount he’s asking for. It’s up to Vince McMahon as to how many times he wants to use him.
Brock Lesnar reportedly pushed to continue his feud with Goldberg coming out of Survivor Series, and it’s looking like their rematch will likely happy at WrestleMania. One scenario that could play out is Brock Lesnar interfering in the Royal Rumble, causing Goldberg to be eliminated in order to set up another match.
WWE used a similar scenario in 2004 when Brock Lesnar interfered in the Royal Rumble when he hit Goldberg with the F5, then Kurt Angle eliminated Goldberg while he was distracted.
Brock Lesnar was a SmackDown star at the time, and Goldberg was on Raw. Steve Austin later gave Brock Lesnar a ticket to the No Way Out pay-per-view, and Goldberg interfered in Brock’s match with Eddie Guerrero, causing him to lose the WWE Championship.
The actions of both men set up their match at WrestleMania 20, which Goldberg won before both men parted ways with WWE.
