WWE’s TLC event was built around the return of The Shield. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose were supposed to come together for their first match as a trio in years, but that was before a “viral infection” broke out to take down Roman Reigns. Kurt Angle was placed in The Big Dog’s spot making this match a return for Kurt Angle instead.
The fact is if Kurt Angle has been cleared to wrestle for TLC then it’s very likely he’ll be working a Big Four pay-per-view as well. This is a very interesting decision and while it might have been better off as a surprise it’s happening nonetheless. Even though some might argue this kind of return warrants a certain level of promotion it isn’t receiving.
Kurt Angle’s return should be a WrestleMania marquee match and now it seems to be a band-aid for a problem of needing someone to fill in for Reigns.
This is certainly a big development and it will be very interesting to see how this situation plays out.
After all, no matter how this match turns out it’s still a five on three handicap match. Kane was brought back just to assault Roman Reigns seemingly driving home some deeper message. Depending on how long Roman Reigns will need to be out things might need to be reworked big time.
Finn Balor is no longer facing Bray Wyatt either. Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline noted he was being told AJ Styles vs Finn Balor will get plenty of time to be an epic match. It just makes me wonder what they had planned before and what other pieces WWE is currently moving around we might never realize.
But even though Sister Abigail isn’t showing up at TLC, the current plan is still for Finn Balor to wrestle as The Demon when he squares off against AJ Styles.
