After weeks of rumors CM Punk finally made his big return to professional wrestling when he joined AEW back in August of 2021 and a few weeks later he faced Darby Allin in his first match back at the All Out pay-per-view.
In the year that followed CM Punk wrestled more frequently than most expected him to as it certainly wasn’t uncommon for him to wrestle on weekly TV in addition to pay-per-views. During a recent episode of FTR with Dax Harwood, Dax explained that Punk wasn’t supposed to wrestle that much, but he insisted on doing it because he wanted to.
“It sounds like I’m kissing his ass, but it was his idea to wrestle that much. He wasn’t supposed to. He had a limited number of matches, but he just became enthralled in wrestling again, and he loved it so much.”
“I don’t think he ever lost love. I think that guys like us who love wrestling as much as we love wrestling, never stop loving it. Sometimes you stop loving the feeling you get after wrestling.”
CM Punk last wrestled at the All Out pay-per-view back in September but he suffered an injury during the main event. Following his comments at the post-show media scrum and his physical altercation with The Elite, CM Punk’s future with AEW remains unknown. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
