There’s certainly no shortage of championships to be won in the world of professional wrestling, but there seems to be a big debate over whether they should be called “belts” or titles.”
Drake recently brought two championships to a NBA game and Sam Roberts commented on a video clip of Drake carrying them by saying, “Belts hold up your pants. Those are championships.”
The tweet caught the attention of Dash Wilder of The Revival who insisted that professional wrestlers refer to them as “belts.”
“No, they’re belts. Just like every legendary PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER I’ve ever watched said. Championship belt.”
Jim Cornette also joined the conversation when he posted the following:
“They’re fucking belts, and it’s a shame even uneducated rasslers think they’re “titles” because Vince thinks the word “belt” is too “rasslin”. Here’s to the Revival for having enough restraint not to choke a sumbitch who calls a belt a “title”.”
205 Live commentator Aiden English also suggested a new name for championships, and got an interesting response from Wilder.
“You want old school word ‘belts’ …he wants the corporate word ‘title’ — can we just invent a new one?
…Championship Bandoliers?”
