Back in 2021, CM Punk shocked the world when he made his debut with AEW and returned to the world of professional wrestling after stepping away for seven years. Punk wasted little time when it came to calling out his first opponent as he immediately set his sights on Darby Allin.
Recently Darby Allin spoke to Kenny McIntosh of Inside The Ropes about working with CM Punk, and he was asked if Punk ever gave him advice during his time in AEW.
“There’s a lot of stuff we’ve talked about, and it was just having the confidence to be like, you belong here [in the] main events. Because on the Indies, I was never the guy. The Indies were stacked when I was coming up, it was insane. But I was never like the guy, the main event guy.
So he kind of pushed me like, Dude, you are the guy and you can be the guy, you got to get over the mental hurdles and be the guy. So that’s kind of why I think he calls myself the best in the world. He’s proven it himself.”
Darby Allin is currently set to challenge for the AEW World Championship at Grand Slam in a few weeks. Bryan Danielson won the AEW World Championship when he defeated Swerve Strickland at All In, so it looks like we’ll be seeing Bryan vs. Allin on September 25th.
