Daniel Bryan is the current General Manager of WWE SmackDown Live, and it’s been almost two years since the former World Heavyweight Champion retired from in-ring competition.
Bryan has said that he didn’t want to retire, and he’s expressed an interest in returning to the ring when his WWE contract expires later this year. However, it looks like the company wants to keep him around.
WrestlingNewsWorld.com reports that WWE recently offered Daniel Bryan a huge contract extension which would pay him the downside guarantee of a main event wrestler even though he wouldn’t be wrestling.
Bryan reportedly declined the offer, which is why Vince McMahon is interested in turning Bryan heel, as WWE officials are now working under the assumption that he will definitely be leaving when his contract expires.
It’s worth noting that the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported last week that WWE officials were considering a heel turn for Bryan as well.
Recently on SmackDown Live looks like WWE is setting up a feud between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan where either one of them could potentially turn heel.
Daniel Bryan has made it clear that he’s grateful for all of the opportunities that he’s gotten through WWE, but he’s also not shy about letting the world know that working the General Manager position isn’t something he loves to do, as he would rather wrestle.
One way or another it’s going to be an interesting year for Daniel Bryan, and all eyes will be on the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion when his contract expires in the fall.
