Daniel Bryan is currently an active member of the SmackDown roster, and CM Punk is no longer an active competitor, but there was a point when they were feuding for the WWE Championship back in 2012 and the feud turned a lot of heads.
Fans were talking about Bryan and Punk’s performances in the ring, and people were also talking about the fact that WWE wasn’t booking their matches in the main event at pay-per-views despite the WWE Title being involved.
This week Daniel Bryan appeared on WWE Backstage, and he talked about how the booking rubbed him the wrong way.
“This was a period where Punk and I are doing stuff with the WWE Championship against each other, and we’re not in the main event? I don’t get rubbed the wrong way very often, but that was just like one of those things. We did a title match once — the main event was John Cena versus my now father-in-law. So, this is all starting to get weird.”
The former WrestleMania main eventer went on to say that the lack of main event spots motivated him to put on the best match possible.
“John Cena versus John Laurinaitis, that was in the main event, but Punk and I had a title match and it was like this weird thing where we had three PPV title matches. Two singles, where none of them were the main event, and then the other one, we get Kane involved! So, I remember being in these title matches and be like, ‘Hey, let’s go out and really show them.'”
Daniel Bryan has once again found himself in the hunt for championship gold as he’s been competing in the Intercontinental Championship tournament on SmackDown.
Bryan will face AJ Styles in the finals of the tournament on the June 12th episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
