Daniel Bryan is the current General Manager of WWE SmackDown Live, and this week Bryan is finally set to make his return to TV. Bryan’s presence is always welcome on Tuesday nights, as he’s still a great addition to SmackDown Live despite the fact that he can’t wrestle.
Bryan is retired at the moment, but when he was still active in WWE he had a classic rivalry with CM Punk. Bryan and Punk’s feud over the WWE Title was big for both men, but during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Daniel Bryan said it’s been a while since he’s talked to Punk.
“I haven’t talked to Punk since I texted him when he came on the UFC show in a suit and said he was going to fight in the UFC,” said Bryan. “I just texted him and said, ‘Hey man, I just saw that and think it’s awesome. I hope you do great.’ Punk texted back, ‘Thanks.’ That’s the last I’ve heard from him.”
Daniel Bryan and CM Punk were both stars on the independent circuit before they signed with WWE, and they both managed to make a name for themselves the same way. Although Punk and Bryan were quite familiar with each other before they arrived in WWE, they were never really close according to the SmackDown Live General Manager.
“I’ve always respected and appreciated Punk, but we never really hung out. We came from the same route, but we didn’t necessarily hang out in the same circles. I’ve always had a great appreciation and respect for his hard work.”
