Damien Sandow Reveals Vince McMahon’s Reaction To His Miz Stunt Double Character

Damien Sandow was released from WWE last year, and many fans were shocked when the company let him go. Throughout his WWE career Sandow was handed lousy gimmicks, and he consistently turned them into gold. His efforts turned him into a fan fan favorite, and it seemed like there was no gimmick that he couldn’t get over.

One of the most ridiculous gimmicks he took on was when he decided to become a stunt double for The Miz. Damien Sandow would mimic The Miz during his matches, and he would often fight invisible wrestlers and take bumps for no reason. If you remember this gimmick then you’re probably likely aware that it was hilarious.

It seemed unlikely that the stunt double character would get over, but it did, and at one point Damien Sandow, who was then going by Damien Mizdow at the time, became one of the most popular acts in all of WWE.

Sandow was recently a guest on X-Pac’s 12360 show, and he revealed the Vince McMahon gave him the freedom to do what he wanted to do when he realized what was going on.

“I remember Tyson Kidd of all people, who is a good buddy of mine and an awesome guy, goes, ‘did you just put the figure four on the invisible man when Miz did?’ I go, ‘Yup.’ He goes, ‘that was the greatest thing I’ve seen on the show (Monday Night RAW) in a long time.’ I just said, ‘Well you know what, watch next week.’ After a couple weeks, Vince (McMahon) was like, ‘Well, I noticed you are mimicking Miz?’ ‘Yup.’ ‘Do whatever you want, if it gets too overboard, I’ll pull you back. And I just went, ‘Okay.'”

There’s no denying that the Damien Mizdow character went overboard at times, but there’s also no denying that it worked. With all of the crazy things that he managed to pull off, one has to wonder if Vince McMahon ever really did tell him to pull back.

One way or another, why WWE didn’t embrace the fact that Sandow was over with the fans will always remain a mystery.

In any case, the former Money in the Bank winner recently revealed that he’s done with Impact Wrestling, but he hasn’t closed the door on his career inside the squared circle.
