The world of professional wrestling is a busy place, and plans often change. Back in 2012 Seth Rollins, Jon Moxley and Roman Reigns debuted as The Shield, and they immediately made an impact on the main roster.

Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E also made his main roster debut in 2012, and he aligned himself with AJ Lee and Dolph Ziggler.

During his WWE 24 documentary Big E reflected on his main roster call up, and he noted that there was talk of bringing him up with Rollins, Reigns and Moxley.

“My first feeling of getting called up was 2012. I was doing loops. Any collective period of days is a loop. It’s Roman [Reigns], Seth [Rollins], Dean [Ambrose], and me. There was some thought of bringing all four of us in together as a group. Obviously, that changes, they go on to international fame as The Shield. I was told, ‘You’re going to be with Dolph and AJ, on your very first night, you’re going to attack John Cena.’ I’m thinking, ‘Man, this is it.'”

Although his run with AJ and Dolph fizzled out, Big E eventually went on to find major success as a member of The New Day.

He’s currently cementing his legacy as a singles star on SmackDown, and it appears that the future is bright for the Intercontinental Champion.
