Kurt Angle’s in-ring career was nothing short of legendary, but he’s been retired for a few years now. Angle was defeated by Baron Corbin in his retirement match at WrestleMania 35, and there are a number of people out there who felt that Corbin was an underwhelming choice for Kurt Angle’s last opponent.
During an appearance on the Comedy Store Wrestling show Dolph Ziggler credited Kurt Angle for being the reason why he has a job and he also made it clear that he was hoping to be the one to face the Hall of Famer in his final match.
“That Kurt match, they didn’t tell us who was going to do it until a couple of weeks out and I was like, ‘Man, are they finally going to give me a singles match at WrestleMania and I get to be in the ring with my hero Kurt Angle.’ The reason I have a job in wrestling because I came in at 5’11” 180 pounds is because Kurt Angle was doing so well that they gave me a shot. He was so good that I got a tryout. I was like, ‘I finally get a Mania match, finally get a one-on-one, it’s my hero.’ I don’t even care if I win or lose, retirement that’s cool. I was very jealous of that.”
The Showoff didn’t get to face Kurt Angle on the Grandest Stage of Them All, but they did go one on one at the Crown Jewel premium live event in 2018. Dolph Ziggler recently shared some ideas that he has for his own retirement match and you can get more that here.
