There are a number of active champions on the WWE roster at the moment, but it looks like one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions is sidelined at the moment.
PWInsider is reporting that Asuka hurt her knee during the most recent episode of Friday Night SmackDown according to multiple sources. WWE pulled Asuka from weekend live events out of caution so that medical tests could be done in order to determine the extent of the injury and whether or not it is something she can work through.
As of right now there’s no word on the status of Asuka’s injury. Asuka & Kairi Sane have been the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions ever since they defeated Katana Chance & Kayden Carter to win the belts during the January 26 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. So far a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match has not been announced for WrestleMania 40, but it’s been rumored that WWE could have had plans for the belts to be defended in a multi-team match.
One way or another we will have to wait and see how things play out with Asuka in the weeks to come. Stay tuned for updates.
