Over the last few years fans have seen a number of former WWE stars join All Elite Wrestling and Jake Hager has been with the company since the early days. Hager previously performed in WWE as Jack Swagger, but he requested his release in 2017 and went on to pursue a career in MMA.
Jake Hager recently opened up about his WWE departure during a K&S WrestleFest signing and he revealed that his original plan was to return to WWE for a match with Roman Reigns.
“When I left WWE, my plan was to go to MMA, get really good, be undefeated and then go back to WWE and wrestle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. A little slight turn. A lot of that happened. We were close. I’d kick Roman’s butt. He knows it, I know it. If you want to tell him that, tell him that.”
Since joining AEW in 2019, Hager has been featured on TV consistently as a member of the Inner Circle and the Jericho Appreciation Society. However, now that the Jericho Appreciation Society has split up Hager is on his own for the first time in his AEW run, so it will be interesting to see where things go from here.
