After CM Punk won the AEW World Championship at the 2022 All Out pay-per-view he proceeded to take shots at The Elite, Adam Page, Colt Cabana and MJF during the post-show media scrum. It was later reported that things got physical between Punk and The Elite after the press conference and several names were suspended. The Elite have since returned to AEW, but CM Punk’s status with the company remains unknown.
Jake Hager has been with AEW from the beginning and during a recent appearance on Story Time with Dutch Mantell the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion briefly commented on the situation with Punk and The Elite.
“I’m sure I can, but I don’t really want to. Who knows how animosity builds and how lack of communication leads to certain things. I think it all stems from how you view things. Obviously, one person in that party was viewing things so negatively and I don’t think he was correct.”
Hager also noted that he had already left the building before the physical altercation took place. Following the show it was reported that AEW was in talks to buy out Punk’s contract, but neither side has confirmed that.
