A few weeks ago Triple H revealed the new WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt and he declared that a new champion will be crowned later this month at Night of Champions. Following the WWE Draft it was also confirmed that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt will be exclusive to Monday Night Raw.
Ahead of WWE Backlash, Triple H announced that a tournament will be held to decide who will compete for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt and stars from both Raw and SmackDown will have a chance to win the title. Two triple threat matches will take place on Raw and SmackDown this week, and the winners of each match will face off later in the show. The winners of the singles matches will then face off against one another at Night of Champions.
Today WWE announced the following names will be competing in the tournament:

Cody Rhodes
SmackDown
