Cody Rhodes On If He Still Watches WWE, The Product Being Watered Down

Cody Rhodes had a long career with WWE, but in 2016 he decided to part ways with the company and blaze his own trail in the professional wrestling industry. It’s safe to say he’s made his own unique mark on the business, as Cody has since become the only man to perform at WrestleMania, TNA Bound For Glory, ROH Final Battle and NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom within one-year’s time.

It’s been a while since Cody Rhodes has been billed as a WWE superstar, but he still has many friends that work with the company. Cody recently spoke with Guide Live and during the interview he was asked if he still watches WWE programming. The former Intercontinental Champion noted that although he had a good time while he was working with WWE, the current product just isn’t for him.

“I mean, unless somebody asks me specific to watch – a lot of my buddies, we’re in one massive group text so there’s a lot of griping and chatting about gossip, feels like I’m still in the locker room half the time and I miss that – but right now it’s not really for me.
It wasn’t really for me the last few years I was there. Not that I don’t love WWE, I had such fun there. I met my wife there. Just the product being PG and being so watered down with such super talented guys on it, it almost makes me mad to watch it. So, I avoid.”

Since parting ways with WWE Cory Rhodes has also wrestled Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle. It was recently announced that Kurt Angle will be headlining this year’s WWE Hall of Fame class and Cody Rhodes had nothing but good things to saw about the 2017 headliner.

“He’s just a tremendous headliner. He’s the greatest pure wrestler – no one with an amateur acumen can ever compare unless they also have an Olympic gold medal … I just can’t wait to see him. I let him know that day that I can’t wait to see him and tell him congratulations. One of the things my dad told me was the only real thing when it comes to the world of wrestling, the only real thing is the Hall of Fame. Maybe that’s because he was a Hall of Famer, but I’ll never forget that.”

Cody also talked about his budding acting career and he noted that he will be making some announcements in the months to come. The American Nightmare also opens up about his new nickname, what it’s like to work with Ring of Honor and more in the full interview which is available here.
