Cody Rhodes is the current Ring of Honor World Champion, but ever since he left WWE he’s been a free agent. However, his status has changed as ROH announced that Cody has signed an exclusive contract.
The exact details of the contract are unknown, but the official press release states that it’s “the most generous offer in Ring of Honor history” and Cody will be with ROH for the next several years. He will still compete in NJPW through the company’s partnership with ROH.
When asked about why he signed Cody said, “I grew up in this business, I’ve seen its peaks and valleys…I know we are entering an unprecedented time in pro wrestling/sports entertainment and it’s time to put my flag in the sand. Joe Koff and his team put together such a generous offer…with some non-wrestling projects on the horizon that I hope to announce soon, and the potential of starting a family down the road…it was a perfect fit. Myself, Marty Scurll, Hangman Page, Matt and Nick Jackson…it’s the dream team…like the 1992 dream team. I have several goals in mind for myself and for ROH and I can’t wait to get started.”
There’s been a lot of talk about Daniel Bryan possibly wrestling again next year when his WWE contract expires, and a few months ago the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion named KUSHIDA as someone he would like to face.
KUSHIDA was asked during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated if he would like to step in the ring with Bryan, and he made it clear that he would be down to answer the challenge.
“Of course my answer is Yes! Yes! Yes! I was really honored to hear what he’d said. When I was a fan I really loved the American Dragon and Curry Man team and their chase for the IWGP Junior Tag Championships. A guy like Bryan, or Rey Mysterio, they aren’t necessarily the biggest, but they still managed to get to the top of the business. As someone of roughly the same size, I really hold them in high regard. They’re proof you can live your dreams if you believe and work hard. If he ever comes back, I’d love to wrestle him. I think it wouldn’t be a case of looking to the crowd, we’d just be focused on each other and let our wrestling do the talking. I hope it’ll happen sometime.”
