Cody Rhodes Says WWE Had Plans For Him To Work As Both Cody And Stardust

Last year Cody Rhodes parted ways with WWE shortly before the brand split, and he hasn’t been shy about letting the world know why he decided to move on. Cody wanted to drop the Stardust gimmick, but it didn’t look like that was in the plans.

Some people questioned the timing of Cody’s departure and wondered if he would have been happier with the company after the brand split. However, it appears that Cody was aware of the brand split before his departure, because he recently told Baby Huey and Bimbo Jimbo of 107.7 The Bone that there was an interesting idea in place for him to work both brands. Unfortunately, the idea was shot down.

“At one point the plan was for me to be Stardust on one brand, and Cody Rhodes on another brand. I thought that was a really great idea. Absolutely wanted to do it! Everybody wanted to do it except for one person who will remain nameless, but that one person has the main vote.”

Everyone’s been talking about JBL as of late due to Mauro Ranallo’s departure from WWE, and rumors of Bradshaw bullying people backstage have been a hot topic recently.

Cody Rhodes commented on the controversy and said that he didn’t see any bullying during his run with the company.

“I’ve known JBL since I first got there ya know in 2007…I never encountered that with John at all. Wrestling isn’t for everybody though. It’s not bullying sometimes when it’s just playful ribbing… I never personally saw any bullying the entire time, and I was there for 11 years, and in every locker room.”

Although Cody had a good run with WWE, he’s also found a lot of success on the independent circuit. He credited The Young Bucks as being a team that proved to other wrestlers that you don’t need to work for WWE in order to be a success in the industry.

“They created a world where guys didn’t need WWE, or to be part of WWE…the venues might be smaller, but the crowds are full. The energy is the same level if not higher…the level of talent is at an absolute high.”
