Cody Rhodes Says He’s More Like The His Father Than He Ever Realized

Cody Rhodes might have lost his last name when he left WWE, but it hasn’t stopped him in the slightest. Since his departure from Vince’s Playground Of Powerslams Cody has traveled the globe making fans and solidifying himself as one of the premier faces on the indie wrestling scene.

The American Nightmare recently spoke to USA Today Sports where he discussed several topics. One thing Cody spoke about was the fact that he’s realizing he’s more like his famous father, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes than he ever imagined.

“I’m never home, but I said if I catch myself complaining, I’m going to kick my own ass because this is what I asked for,” Cody said. “Cody is going to be the main event on this night in Barnesville, Ga., and the night before in Manhattan, and I want to know that I can do that. I’ve gotta know.”

“I think the biggest thing I’ve gotten out of this is I learned how much I want to be like my dad. For so long, I have tried not to be my dad, because that doesn’t sell tickets. That doesn’t help – to be a repeat, a novelty or a parody or a replication.”

Cody went on to discuss how losing his legendary father changed the path of his career. Sometimes losing your dad can be a totally negative thing. It was a horrible experience for the Runnels Family and the pro wrestling community to lose Dusty. But it’s not slowing Cody down.

Cody said he is more in control of his own destiny than ever. He is also following in his father’s footsteps in a big way with every new town he makes on his own.

“Since he’s gone, I find myself in control of my own business and being my own boss. That’s where I’ve found that I am more like him than I ever realized. That’s been a fun thing to realize. Dusty was always his own boss even when he was in polka dots. It’s cool to feel him that way.”
