Cody Rhodes parted ways with AEW earlier this year and he’s been on a roll since returning to WWE and he’s quickly become one of the top stars in the company. This weekend the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view will air live, but for the first time Cody won’t be part of the show.
One fan got Cody’s attention on Twitter when they noted in a now deleted tweet that they wouldn’t be watching Double or Nothing due to Cody Rhodes not being on the card. The former TNT Champion responded by saying he’s proud of his time with AEW. He then added that it was just time for him to go for the big one.
“Full stop: the money and creative story that misguided brudda put out there has already been rebuffed by all parties. I’m proud of my peers/kids there and my accomplishments as competitor/EVP. It was just personal and it was just time to go for the big one.”
After Cody Rhodes made the announcement confirming he was leaving AEW various rumors surfaced regarding the reasons why he left, but so far Cody Rhodes has had nothing but positive things to say about his run with AEW, and Tony Khan has also had positive things to say about Cody’s run with the company. Since returning to WWE the American Nightmare has made it very clear that he intends to capture the WWE Championship.
AEW Double or Nothing will air live on Sunday, May 29th and Cody Rhodes will be in action when he faces Seth Rollins at WWE Hell in a Cell on June 6th. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
