When Cody Rhodes announced that he was leaving AEW last year fans immediately started talking about a possible WWE return. Eventually Cody did return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, and he had an interesting meeting with Vince McMahon before he agreed to make a comeback.
During a recent interview with HOT 97, Cody Rhodes discussed his negotiations with Vince McMahon and he noted that he told McMahon he wanted to keep his song and his elevator.
“So, that’s, you know, he knew we really can’t change it at this point. This is what it is. And he said something really great that day. I was really, you know, I stood my ground. I said, ‘I don’t wanna change a thing about myself, including my song. I wanna have my elevator. I want all this.’ And he said something, he goes, ‘well, that’s what we’re buying. It’s not broke.’ And I thought, ‘that feels good.’ because I hadn’t figured it out when I was here the first time. Everything was broke. And that was a nice feeling.”
For the most part Cody did get what he wanted, although the elevator is no longer used, presumably because it’s not a good fit for WWE’s stage set up. One way or another his WWE run has gone well so far as he’s currently set to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania.
