Cody Rhodes parted ways with WWE years ago, and since then he’s been simply using the name “Cody.” WWE held the trademark to the “Cody Rhodes” name and he had been in a trademark dispute with WWE, but it appears that the dispute is over.
It was recently reported that WWE filed a cancelation notice with the USPTO on 11/2, and that the company has surrendered the trademark.
Cody participated in a media call ahead of the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view, and during the call he addressed the status of his name.
He noted during the call that he doesn’t plan to use the Cody Rhodes name in wrestling, and that he’ll still likely be “Cody” moving forward.
However, he added that he’s looking forward to using the name for third party stuff such as TV shows.
Cody also reiterated that he will not be challenging for the AEW World Championship in the future, and that there won’t be any loopholes as far as that stipulation is concerned.
