All Elite Wrestling was officially announced in January, and since then the wrestling landscape has changed in a lot of ways.
WWE has reacted to the emergence of AEW by locking their Superstars into longer contracts, and the company also pulled The Undertaker and Kurt Angle from Starrcast II despite the fact that Starrcast isn’t directly affiliated with All Elite Wrestling.
A few weeks ago DX was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and Triple H made a not so subtle reference to AEW when he joked about Vince McMahon buying a “pissant company” so he could fire Billy Gunn.
In the latest episode of The Road To Double Or Nothing, Cody Rhodes talked about his upcoming match against his brother Dustin Rhodes at Double Or Nothing, and he said that he’s not here to kill Dustin Rhodes, he’s here to kill the Attitude Era.
He noted that he and all of his peers have been compared to wrestlers from the Attitude Era for over a decade. He then said it’s a sham, because they were only moving at 35 MPH, and they were too afraid to press their foot down on the gas pedal.
Rhodes then went on to address the “pissant” remark when he asked, “You mean to tell me that some pissant bodybuilder making every match a no DQ, meandering around the crowd, throwing the jib cam at his opponent compares with a Kenny/Okada match?”
He also mentioned CM Punk and The Rock when he said, “Or even Dwayne, as electric as it was, rhyming and raising, was it really better than what Punk said sitting on that stage?”
