Cody Rhodes is a spectacular pro wrestler and he took on the world with a zeal few really expected. But if you know anything about his family then you should have already been aware of how resilient and impressive the Rhodes dynasty can be.
Cody Rhodes is taking on the world appearing for ROH and New Japan while putting on clinics with fellow Bullet Club members even though the Bullet Club is fine. He’s making a lot of money in the process and he’s really pulling off his blonde hair at this point.
But as Cody continues to draw heat and impress where ever he goes WWE is still honoring his father Dusty Rhodes’ amazing legacy through a yearly tournament in NXT.
One fan asked NXT why they don’t invite Cody Rhodes to the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and he received an answer from the man himself.
Rhodes chimed in that WWE does invite him to the ceremony every year but he said that “I personally can’t honor him by standing next to a trophy.” He also went on to say that it’s a beautiful trophy and it really is.
Rhodes also said the moment isn’t about him, it’s about William Regal and the guys grinding away at the WWE Performance Center to make their dreams become a reality. This was a great response from Cody and makes me feel a lot better about WWE using Dusty Rhodes’ name to promote a tournament.
Those tag teams work so hard in the ring and it is to honor a legend we lost far too soon. Perhaps one day if Cody returns to WWE he might be a part of the conclusion of NXT’s fantastic tournament which honors his legendary father but in the meantime, it looks like he’ll be enjoying the show and the trophy from home.
