When WWE purchased WCW, they inherited the intellectual property that went along with the brand, including pay-per-view names. There are quite a few concepts from WCW’s heyday that fans have been hoping to see WWE resurrect, but for the most part the company has left the old WCW names in the past.
However, WWE will be resurrecting a big WCW event in November when Starrcade takes place from Greensboro, NC. The company made the big announcement earlier today and Starrcade will be a SmackDown branded live event that will take place the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Starrcade was created by the late, great, Dusty Rhodes, and the members of the Rhodes family made some comments on social media in response to WWE using the name.
Ring of Honor World Champion Cody Rhodes tagged Michael Hayes in a tweet, and he told him that if he’s going to use the Starrcade name in an attempt to sell tickets, the company should at least book Goldust for the show.
Dear @MichaelPSHayes1
If you’re afraid an event won’t sell cuz’ the holiday and want one of my Dad’s events…at least book Goldy..

Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes also chimed in and she criticized WWE for not giving credit to Dusty Rhodes for the Starrcade name.
Starrcade was created and delivered by Dusty Rhodes. WWE didn’t want to do it while he was here. Now they want to do it and not give credit? pic.twitter.com/5ZLsoptjHE
