CM Punk officially made his return to the ring when he faced Darby Allin at the All Out pay-per-view back in September of 2021, and Punk has been riding an undefeated streak since then.
The former WWE Champion has been feuding with MJF for months now, and during Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite they finally clashed in Chicago. Punk dominated early on in the match, but when it was all said and done it was MJF who picked up the victory.
At one point MJF wrapped a piece of wrist tape around CM Punk’s neck while the referee wasn’t looking then applied a choke hold. Punk tried to fight back and put him in the GTS, but MJF choked him again and brought him down to the mat.
The referee lifted up CM Punk’s had 3 times and it fell back down all 3 times so he called for the bell. However, after making the call the referee saw the tape and decided to restart the match.
MJF continued to focus on Punk’s knee, and the knee gave out and CM Punk fell to the mat later in the match when he tried to go for the GTS. They continued to battle and CM Punk hit the Pepsi Plunge off the ropes as the fans chanted “holy s**t!”
Near the end of the match Wardlow started walking down to the ring as MJF was laying on the floor. Punk exited the ring and Wardlow stepped over MJF to get in his face. Wardlow then stepped aside as Punk picked up MJF and threw him back in the ring.
Wardlow distracted the referee and passed the diamond ring to MJF as MJF hit Punk with the diamond ring then pinned him to win the match.
