CM Punk’s first UFC fight didn’t go so well, as he was defeated by Mickey Gall in 2 minutes and 45 seconds. But CM Punk hasn’t given up on his dream of being a MMA fighter, and his coach Duke Roufus has confirmed that Punk is training for his next fight.
Dana White has also confirmed that he’s going to let CM Punk fight in UFC once again, but when and where the fight will be happening has not been announced. However, one idea that is reportedly on the table could see CM Punk fight Mike Jackson at UFC 225 in June.
UFC 225 is set to take place from Chicago, and Punk recently teased on Twitter that he’s interested in fighting at the event. Mike Jackson shared an update on the fight, and he said that a contract has not been signed at this point in time.
“No contract has been signed. I’m waiting to hear back from Phil and his camp,” Jackson said on FloCombat.com’s Top Turtle MMA podcast. “I’ve spoken to Mick Maynard, who is a close personal friend of mine as well as the UFC matchmaker, and he kind of doesn’t know what’s going on at this time with (CM) Punk.”
The fight could be interesting as Punk and Jackson both suffered losses at the hands of Mickey Gall, but when it comes to CM Punk’s future in the MMA world, Jackson doesn’t think he has much to offer.
“[Brooks is] really getting a crash course, and I feel that, unless you’re some crazy prodigy, like a young B.J. Penn, the chances of you picking up different facets of the game to compete with someone — even on my level — it’s very slim,” Jackson said.
