Since the summer of 2011 CM Punk has taken the WWE by storm and he’s been a part of some of the most memorable feuds in company history. Whether you love him or hate him you can’t deny that he’s very talented and he’s the type of wrestler that can have a good match with just about anyone.
CM Punk has had many great and memorable feuds since coming to WWE but today we’re going to take a look at 5 feuds we feel stood out above the rest.
Honorable Mention – The Rock
CM Punk VS The Rock gave us some great promos due to the fact that these two superstars are pretty much polar opposites. You could tell CM Punk was thrilled to have been given the opportunity to work with a huge star such as The Rock and he stepped up his game to make sure that he shined just as bright as his opponent. This feud would have ranked in the top 5 had the actual matches they had been a little bit better but despite the chemistry they had during their verbal confrontations they never seemed to really click in the ring.
6. CM Punk VS Jeff Hardy
This is one of those cases where you couldn’t tell if it was art imitating life or life imitating art. It’s no big secret that these two didn’t lead similar lifestyles back in 2009 and rumors of real life animosity between the two were all but confirmed after Jeff Hardy left WWE and posted drunken videos on YouTube where he took shots at CM Punk. Much like Bret Hart VS Shawn Michaels it was that real life animosity between these two that made this feud so special.
Thanks to the differences between these two we got to see a real life rivalry play out right before our very eyes on WWE programming and it was one of the most memorable feuds of the past few years. This was really the first opportunity that CM Punk was given in WWE to show the company what he could do as a heel and he knocked it out of the park.
5. CM Punk VS Chris Jericho
Everything about this feud has been perfect. These two always put on a classic match due to the fact that they push each other to the limit every time and the promos are always something memorable as well. Whether it was Jericho returning to face CM Punk at WrestleMania 28 or CM Punk returning to face Jericho at Payback every match has been unique in its own way.
This is a feud that’s great because neither one of them has to be defined as either a heel or face in order for it to work. The fans are more than happy to cheer for both superstars and no one really seems to care who wins because the match itself is rewarding enough.
4. CM Punk VS Daniel Bryan
CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are two talented wrestlers that have overcome the odds in order to rise up to the top of WWE. They went from wrestling each other on the independent scene to wrestling each other on WWE PPVs for the WWE Championsip which is a huge testament to their abilities and dedication.
The summer of 2012 saw CM Punk and Daniel Bryan face off for the WWE Championship several times and each match was equally as impressive as the last. These two are a perfect match for each other and despite the fact that many fans were hoping to see them face off again at WrestleMania XXX it doesn’t look likely to happen at this point. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind however that this feud will be revisited sometime in the near future and it would be nice to see Punk play the heel and Bryan play the face next time around.
3. CM Punk VS Brock Lesnar
This feud had everything you could ever want as a wrestling fan. It had great promos, it had drama, it had epic brawls and when these two finally faced off at Summerslam they put on one of the best matches in 2013. Working as Paul Heyman’s enforcer Brock Lesnar attempted to destroy CM Punk week after week and this storyline made CM Punk look extremely tough as he refused to stay down and did everything within his power to fight back
CM Punk VS Brock Lesnar at Summerslam was an unforgettable match and although Punk didn’t win he still managed to walk away looking like a real threat to Brock Lesnar. I don’t think you’ll find any fan out there who wouldn’t be interested in seeing a rematch.
2. CM Punk VS The Undertaker
CM Punk and The Undertaker gave wrestling fans a feud none of us will ever forget in 2013. Their feud a few years ago over the World Heavyweight Championship was great but it wasn’t even close to being on the same level as the program they had building up to WrestleMania 29.
CM Punk was coming off of the longest WWE Championship reign in the past 25 years while The Undertaker was returning for his yearly WrestleMania main event and these two managed to give us a feud that was unlike anything on WWE television at the time. We live in the “PG era” but their rivalry pushed the limits of what can be done in the PG format. At times it got uncomfortable because neither one of them held anything back as they incorporated the death of Paul Bearer into the storyline.
Punk and The Undertaker stole the show at WrestleMania 29 and Punk played the perfect villain for The Undertaker in 2013. CM Punk’s heel character was the perfect choice when it came to who would challenge The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania 29. He was such an evil heel that no matter how much you like CM Punk you have to admit it felt great to see The Undertaker get a victory over him.
1. CM Punk VS John Cena
CM Punk VS John Cena is a rivalry for the ages. It can be argued that it’s been both of these men’s greatest rivalry in WWE so far due to the fact that they make perfect enemies and every time they have a match against each other their chemistry just seems to get better and better.
There are many feuds in WWE that get rehashed far too often but this one never seems to get stale. CM Punk is the classic anti authority rebel and John Cena is the WWE’s golden boy and these two always give us some great promos while taking shots at each other.
It’s safe to say that these two will square off over the WWE Championship again in the future and it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see this feud culminate in a WrestleMania main event someday.
