CM Punk Wins WWE World Heavyweight Title At Saturday Night’s Main Event

Saturday Night’s Main Event aired live from Salt Lake City, UT on Saturday and the show featured four big title matches. Cody Rhodes successfully retained his Undisputed WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre in the opening match, and CM Punk went on to face Jey Uso for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event.

CM Punk controlled the match early on as Jey Uso struggled to get offense in. Punk managed to connect with the GTS after a few minutes, but Jey fell out of the ring, so Punk was unable to capitalize. As Jey was trying to recover outside of the ring Punk dumped a water bottle on him as he tried to wake his opponent up.

Eventually Jey landed a superkick followed by a spear and an Uso Splash. CM Punk kicked out at two and they both struggled to get back to their feet. Jey went to the top rope again and CM Punk took him down with a superplex.

Punk caught Jey with the running knee into the bulldog then called for the GTS. He put Jey on his shoulders, but Jey slipped out of it and connected with a superkick which sent Punk to the outside. Uso followed up with a dive through the ropes to Punk.

CM Punk rolled into the ring to break the count then ended up on the outside of the ring again. Jey Uso stalked Punk then speared him through the barricade and threw him back into the ring.

Jey went for an Uso Splash, but Punk blocked it with his knees. He followed up with a GTS as Jey got the shoulder up at two. CM Punk tried for a piledriver which was blocked by Jey who put Punk on his shoulders and hit Punk with a GTS of his own. Jey ran the ropes and Punk hit him with a spear for another two count.

CM Punk connected with the GTS again and Jey bounced off the ropes then fell on Punk’s shoulders. He went for another GTS, but Punk fell down and Jey locked in the sleeper hold. Punk rolled over then put Jey in the Anaconda Vice. Jey managed to break the hold when he grabbed the bottom rope.

Jey landed two superkicks as Punk fell to his knees. He charged at Punk, but Punk countered with a kick followed by another GTS to win the match.
