2022 was a wild year for professional wrestling and one of the highlights for AEW was the CM Punk vs. MJF feud. Punk and MJF had one of the most talked about feuds of the year, but both wrestlers are in very different places right now.
MJF is the current AEW World Champion, while CM Punk hasn’t appeared on AEW programming since the All Out pay-per-view and his status with the company is unknown.
CM Punk and MJF won Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s award for Best Feud of the Year, and MJF posted a photo of himself holding the award on Instagram which showed that he put a piece of tape over Punk’s. CM Punk commented on the Instagram post when he added the following response: “Maybe find some tape for the ratings so nobody sees those either.”
There’s currently no word on what the future holds for CM Punk and AEW, but Punk hasn’t been as quiet on social media as of late. The two time AEW Champion recently posted a chart in his Instagram stories showing that he was featured in some of AEW’s most viewed YouTube videos in 2022.
Following CM Punk’s physical altercation with The Elite after the All Out pay-per-view it was reported that AEW was looking into buying out his contract, but neither Tony Khan nor Punk have confirmed that. Whether or not things can be worked out between the two sides remains to be seen.
