CM Punk is a very controversial figure in the world of wrestling right now. Since parting ways with WWE he’s made a few comments that have rubbed wrestling fans the wrong way. But it’s hard not to remember just how much fun his 434 day WWE Championship reign was and it began 4 years ago today.
CM Punk challenged WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio at Survivor Series from Madison Square Garden in New York City. Punk got a special introduction from Howard Finkel, which the crowd absolutely loved, before the match kicked off. Del Rio and Punk battled for over 17 minutes before CM Punk made Alberto Del Rio tap out to the Anaconda Vice.
The match was fun and memorable but it was the days that followed that cemented CM Punk’s legacy in the world of professional wrestling. For 434 days CM Punk carried the WWE Championship with pride and put on some of the best matches WWE had seen in years. We may never see CM Punk in WWE again, but we’ll always have those 434 days.
