For years many fans hoped for a possible AJ Lee return, and it finally happened when the former WWE Divas Champion appeared on SmackDown for the first time in over a decade a few weeks ago. AJ Lee is now set to return to the ring this weekend as she’ll be teaming up with CM Punk to face Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at WrestlePalooza.
Ahead of their big match at WrestlePalooza, CM Punk spoke to ESPN about AJ Lee’s return, and he revealed what he said to her to convince her to come back to WWE.
“Honestly, it was one of those things where I told her that the place was 180 degrees, maybe 360, I don’t know, different than when she left it. And all these wrestlers that really grew up watching her, got into the business because of her, were inspired to follow their dreams because she followed hers on such a grand stage – they were all in the company now, and I just thought it would have been a great way for her to see and understand how great she is and how much she’s loved. So that’s the other fun part of being around and witnessing it. And I just kind of had to explain, like, you’ve gotta see it to believe it.”
Following her return it was reported that AJ Lee signed a multi-year contract with WWE, and she is expected to work with the company full-time moving forward.
