The Royal Rumble aired live from Tropicana Field on Saturday night and CM Punk entered the men’s Royal Rumble match at 27. The final two came down to Cody Rhodes and CM Punk which led to Rhodes picking up the win after throwing Punk over the top rope. Unfortunately it seems that CM Punk suffered an injury during the match.
PWInsider is reporting that CM Punk is believed to have suffered a torn triceps during the 30 man Royal Rumble match. The severity of the injury has not been confirmed, but the belief is that CM Punk will be getting surgery at some point following his appearance on Raw tonight. CM Punk is currently in Tampa for Raw.
Sources who commented on the subject noted that after surgery Punk will likely need 4 to 6 months to recover. If CM Punk gets surgery in the next week or two he likely won’t be able to return until summer which means he’s off the WrestleMania card.
There’s speculation that CM Punk may have suffered the injury when he took the Future Shock DDT from Drew McIntyre in the Royal Rumble. After taking the move he rolled out of the ring and held his left arm then spoke to a WWE referee.
WWE had been building up a CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins match for WrestleMania 40, but it’s not clear at this point in time how WWE will change direction regarding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match.
Stay tuned for updates.
