On Sunday night CM Punk challenged Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship and it was CM Punk who picked up the win and walked out with the belt. After the event CM Punk participated in the post-show media scrum, and he directly addressed rumors of him having backstage heat while taking shots at Colt Cabana, The Elite and Adam Page.
Fightful Select reports that CM Punk has garnered an incredible amount of heat for the comments he made during the post-show media scrum. Fightful also noted that while they originally reported the story about the issues with Punk and Cabana they’ve never spoken to The Young Bucks or Kenny Omega outside of interviews.
The story reportedly came from frustrated talent who were under the impression that the bad blood between Punk and Cabana cost Cabana a job he was enjoying. However, Tony Khan has denied that is the case. Cabana was taken off AEW TV and he’s now part of ROH. It’s being said that Cabana did indicate to Khan before Punk joined AEW that he would not be happy working there if Punk was part of the company.
During Punk’s rant at the post-show media scrum he accused AEW EVPs of leaking info and he also accused Adam Page of going into business for himself. Following the rant talent informed Fightful that The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega were extremely pissed off. One person even claimed that they were threatening to walk over the comments. Prior to this at least one of The Young Bucks had reportedly been in contact with talent outside of AEW and indicated that the rumors surrounding Punk were true.
Some people believed that The Elite were originally scheduled for the post-show media scrum, but an adjustment was made after Punk went off on his rant. However, that has not been confirmed. Talent that were contacted were under the impression that this situation is real and not a work. It’s also being said that several talent are very upset with Punk’s comments.
There are also unconfirmed rumors that CM Punk and Ace Steel were involved in some sort of altercation with The Elite. Several talent and members of the media had learned of the incident by the end of the press conference. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
